**Advanced Nutritional Assessment (ANA) #
** A comprehensive evaluation of an individual's nutritional status, using a variety of anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary assessment methods. ANA is the core of the Advanced Certificate in Nutritional Anthropometry course.
**Anthropometry #
** The scientific measurement of the human body, including body composition, health status, and physical performance. It involves using standardized techniques and tools to assess various aspects of health and nutrition.
**Body Composition #
** The proportion of fat, muscle, bone, and water in the human body. Assessing body composition helps determine health status, nutrition, and fitness levels.
**Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) #
** A non-invasive method to estimate body composition, using low-level electrical currents to measure body fat and lean mass. BIA is a common tool in ANA.
**Biochemical Assessment #
** The measurement of various chemicals in the body, such as blood glucose, cholesterol, and vitamins, to assess nutritional status and health.
**Clinical Assessment #
** The evaluation of an individual's medical history, physical examination, and laboratory results to determine their health and nutritional status.
**Dietary Assessment #
** The measurement of an individual's food and nutrient intake, using methods such as 24-hour recalls, food records, and food frequency questionnaires.
**Dual #
Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA):** A non-invasive method to measure bone density and body composition, using low-dose X-rays. DXA is considered the gold standard for body composition assessment.
**Energy Expenditure #
** The amount of energy used by the body for various activities, including basal metabolic rate, physical activity, and digestion.
**Fat #
Free Mass:** The total body weight minus the fat mass, including muscle, bone, and water.
**Fat Mass #
** The total amount of fat in the body, including subcutaneous and visceral fat.
**Fitness Assessment #
** The measurement of an individual's physical fitness, including cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, and flexibility.
**Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) #
** A method to assess an individual's long-term food intake, by asking how often they consume specific foods and beverages.
**Functional Assessment #
** The measurement of an individual's ability to perform daily activities, such as walking, climbing stairs, and carrying groceries.
**Health Assessment #
** The evaluation of an individual's overall health status, including nutritional, physical, and mental health.
**Hydration Status #
** The measurement of an individual's water balance, including total body water and fluid intake and output.
**Laboratory Assessment #
** The measurement of various chemicals and markers in the body, such as blood tests, urine tests, and saliva tests, to assess nutritional status and health.
**Metabolic Rate #
** The amount of energy used by the body at rest, also known as basal metabolic rate (BMR) or resting metabolic rate (RMR).
**Nutritional Anthropometry #
** The application of anthropometry to assess nutritional status and health.
**Physical Activity Assessment #
** The measurement of an individual's physical activity levels, using methods such as questionnaires, accelerometers, and pedometers.
**Subcutaneous Fat #
** The fat located directly under the skin, often measured using skinfold thickness.
**Visceral Fat #
** The fat located in the abdominal cavity, surrounding internal organs, and often measured using waist circumference or imaging techniques.
**Waist #
to-Hip Ratio (WHR):** The ratio of waist circumference to hip circumference, used to assess abdominal obesity and health risk.
**24 #
hour Recall:** A method to assess an individual's food intake, by asking them to recall all foods and beverages consumed in the past 24 hours.
