**Androgen excess #
** A common feature of PCOS, characterized by high levels of male hormones such as testosterone, which can lead to symptoms like acne, hirsutism, and male-pattern baldness.
**Bipolar disorder #
** A mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, ranging from manic highs to depressive lows, which can impact a person's ability to function in daily life. While not directly caused by PCOS, the two conditions can co-occur, and the symptoms of each can exacerbate the other.
**Clinical depression #
** A serious mental health condition characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in daily activities for two weeks or longer. Women with PCOS are at increased risk for developing clinical depression due to the hormonal imbalances and other symptoms associated with the condition.
**Depressive symptoms #
** Symptoms of depression can include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and thoughts of death or suicide. Women with PCOS are at increased risk for developing depressive symptoms due to the hormonal imbalances and other symptoms associated with the condition.
**Eating disorders #
** Mental health conditions characterized by abnormal eating habits, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Women with PCOS are at increased risk for developing eating disorders due to the weight gain and body image issues associated with the condition.
**Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) #
** A mental health condition characterized by excessive worry and anxiety that interferes with daily life. Women with PCOS are at increased risk for developing GAD due to the hormonal imbalances and other symptoms associated with the condition.
**Hirsutism #
** Excessive hair growth on the face, chest, and back, which can be a symptom of androgen excess in women with PCOS.
**Infertility #
** A common symptom of PCOS, characterized by irregular menstrual cycles and difficulty becoming pregnant.
**Insulin resistance #
** A common feature of PCOS, characterized by high levels of insulin in the blood, which can lead to weight gain, difficulty losing weight, and an increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

**Post #
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD):** A mental health condition characterized by intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and avoidance behaviors related to a traumatic event.
**Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) #
** A severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), characterized by mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and depression in the days leading up to menstruation.
**Sleep disorders #
